Girlguiding Fun in Welwyn Garden City!

Here at St Mary Magdalene, we're thrilled to support our local Girlguiding groups. We offer a safe and friendly space for Rainbows and Brownies right here in Welwyn Garden City. It’s a place for them to meet, learn, and just have a great time!

Girlguiding is a fantastic charity for girls and young women all over the UK. What’s it all about?

• Building confidence
• Helping girls dream big
• Having loads of fun! And all this while they help make their local community a little bit brighter. It’s pretty great.

So, What Are Rainbows?

Rainbows are the youngest members of the Girlguiding family, usually for girls aged 4 to 7. Being a Rainbow is all about excitement and making new friends. Imagine your daughter:

• Exploring new things
• Getting her hands a bit messy (the best kind of fun!)
• Doing cool arts and crafts
• Playing fun games
• Learning about the world all around her

It’s a wonderful way for girls to start their Guiding adventure. They pick up new skills and make new pals in a place where everyone is supportive. A perfect start!

And What About Brownies?

Brownies is for girls aged 7 to 10. This is where the adventure really kicks up a notch! Brownie groups, or 'units' as they're sometimes called, have so many different things going on. Girls get to:

• Earn cool badges for trying new things
• Learn new skills – maybe even ones they never thought they’d try!
• Play awesome games
• Go on trips. Sometimes even sleepovers or camps!
• Help out with projects in the community

Being a Brownie helps girls find out what they’re good at. They learn to make a difference and get to share their own ideas. Their voice matters!

A Great Place for Young People

At St Mary Magdalene, we love seeing children and young people in Hertfordshire flourish. That's why we're keen to support groups like Rainbows and Brownies. We've seen so many smiles and heard so much laughter from the groups who meet here – it really makes our day!

Our church has some great spots for groups to meet.

• Our Parish Centre (you'll find it at Hall Grove, Welwyn Garden City, AL7 4PJ) is a big favourite. It’s easy to get to, nice and bright, and has its own kitchen and car park. Super handy!
• Our Upper Room, located at the main church (St Mary Magdalene, Hollybush Lane, Welwyn Garden City, AL7 4JS), is a bigger space. Perfect for larger groups or special get-togethers.

A quick note: While we provide the space, the actual Rainbow and Brownie groups are run by Girlguiding and their brilliant local volunteers. They do an amazing job! We’re just happy to offer them a welcoming home.

We're Here for Our Community

St Mary Magdalene is more than just a church building; we love being a hub for our Welwyn Garden City community. We're happy to offer our spaces for hire. This doesn't just help groups like the Rainbows and Brownies find a place to meet. It also helps us keep our church going. The money from hiring out our rooms is really important. It means we can keep serving the people of Welwyn Garden City.
